A wonderful year…

Author: Dragon Girl  //  Category: Personal

Hullo all. I just wanted to reflect upon this beautiful time of year. Towards the end of summer and the beginning of fall…just beautiful! The tree’s in my corner of paradise are already starting to change their colors, and I cannot think of anything better to do than sit beneath one of the Ancient oaks and read. Of course, I am being slightly biased, I also like sitting beneath the cottonwoods… It’s just wonderful, to sit in the fresh Autumn air, listening to the birds…this is a dreamy time of year. In my world, it’s been a rather chilly summer, with only a few river-worthy days, and one or two heat-waves that us pale-ones who have not had sun to tan were not prepared for. Luckily I escaped without any sort of burn.

I just wanted to take a moment and think about how wonderful this year has been. All the books, the laughs (I giggle about 1,000,000,000 times a day.), the smiles, the…rain? Yeah, that’s usually where ‘the sunshine’ goes. But I love the rain, so it’s not that bad. I missed the sun, though. Well, there were a few days where I prayed it would go away, but that was superficial…hehe? A truly wonderful year, and I look forward to a wonderful winter full of new, and old, adventures…

The Dark Mirror…..

Author: Dragon Girl  //  Category: Ages 16+, Fantasy, Fiction, Junior, Romance, Science Fiction, Young Adults

The Dark MirrorHullo there! I have been so scattered the past few days. Recently I have been reading The Dark Mirror, by Juliet Marillier, which is book one of the Bridei chronicles.

Bridei is a young boy, sent for an unknown reason to be fostered with the kings adviser, a powerful druid named Broichan. He is raised in the way of a scholar, the silence of the forest. That is, until the silence is broken by Tuala, an infant of the Good Folk. The Shining one leads him to her on Midwinter night, and takes her in. Her place in the household is shaky at best, and worse as she grows. Bridei remains a steady companion, and older brother. But she is Other. Never has she been truly liked by Broichan, and only Bridei truly understands her. But Bridei must grow up, and his destiny may not encompass Tuala….

I say ages 16+ for this lovely start to a wonderful adventure!

Through wolf’s eyes…an adventure into the wild

Author: Dragon Girl  //  Category: Ages 16+, Fantasy, Fiction, Junior, Romance, Science Fiction, Young Adults

Through Wolf's EyesNow this is an enjoyable book! Okay, I know that’s a slightly more positive start than most posts, but I’m feeling peppy. In sync. Oh god, I’m starting to sound like those corny mushy people I despise….back to the book before I say anything else embarrassing… Now, I love my young teen novels with their innocent ideals, but this is one of those can’t-put-down books. It’s another book that my mom recommended…she has lots of experience on me! And so I present Through Wolf’s Eyes by Jane Lindskold (Who is, by the way, an awesome author!!!)

This book follows Firekeeper, a young women who has been raised by wolves. After a dozen years of being with her pack, something has changed in the forest. Strangers who walk on two legs, strangers who look like her…a terrible fire, screaming, fear, blood…..

I say ages 16+ for this wildly entertaining book! I give much praise to the author for eloquently portraying the world through a wolf’s eyes….

Dragonspell

Author: Dragon Girl  //  Category: Ages 11+, Fantasy, Fiction, Junior, Science Fiction, Young Adults

A Dragon adventure ?

Well, as you can tell I have taken a little bit of a break, because I found myself doing posts on books that I have never read before, and probably would not read for a while, and decided it was not right. My wondrous blog started to become a chore, so I decided to read a few books, and let you know how I fell about ‘em…so, I bring you a book that is still fresh in my mind, Dragonspell by Donita K. Paul. My mother reccomended this book to me, along with several others I have not gotten around to reading yet.

Dragonspell follows Kale, a young slave-girl who has been sent to The Hall with the dragon egg she discovered. Now that is a powerful sentence! Kale runs into a bit of trouble when Grawligs, mountain trolls, find her, and decide to have her over for supper (Kale being the supper)… You see, Kale has strange abilities, and can do things, and hear things. I guess you’ll have to read the book to find out exactly what those things are…

I highly recommend this book, and found it entertaining and highly amusing. I believe this book would be ages 11+…great book!!!

Eye of the Oracle

Author: Dragon Girl  //  Category: Ages 14+, Fantasy, Fiction, Junior, Romance, Science Fiction, Uncategorized, Young Adults

Eye of the OracleWhat do you get when you mix a scoop of humor with a drizzle of romance, a little bit of tragedy (Okay, a lot!), and a giant globule of adventure?! Why, Eye of the Oracle by Bryan Davis, of course! The Oracles of Fire series (Eye of the Oracle being book one, of course) is the prequel to the Dragons in our Midst series. This epic adventure spans the centuries, literally! While following an array of characters, including a misguided dragon, a few hybrids, Merlin (Yes, from King Arthurs time), a couple Dragonslayers, an Underbourne with awesome abilities, a long lost sister, and two thoroughly wicked wraiths. Mara is the sorta-main character, but its hard to tell. She is-well, you’ll have to read it, because I doubt anyone but Bryan Davis could aptly describe her.I just, like yesterday, finished this book, and so its adventures are still swirling in my head. Hopefully my brain won’t choke (LOL, inside joke!)… I really like this book, with its well-written humor and tasteful romance.

I would suggest ages 14+ for this book! ;^)

In Legend Born

Author: Dragon Girl  //  Category: Ages 15+, Fantasy, Fiction, Junior, Romance, Science Fiction, Young Adults

In Legend BornI am in an awesome mood. It is a great day, and though worries plague my mind, I have an overall cheerfulness overwhelming me! I….well, lets just say there’s a lot right with my life right now, and only a little wrong. Usually the spectrum is opposite, but I’m going to enjoy this string of good luck, and try not to jinx it… So, I bring you In Legend Born, by Laura Resnick.

Sileria has been plagued with usurpers for as long as memory goes, the latest being the hedonistic Valdani. They have force the people of Sileria into the Silerian mountains, and are selling them into harsh and brutal slavery, the only escape being death. By the hands fate and prophecy, an uneasy allegiance of five may be Sileria’s only hope. An outlaw with a message of hope, a lethal warrior, a hauntingly seductive aristocrat, Sileria’s most powerful sorcerer, who craves revenge almost as much as freedom, and a fiery prophetic guardian whose visions are what brought the five together. They stand as Sileria’s last hope. Will they be enough?

It has a rich setting, sharply drawn characters, and a cleverly convoluted plot that doesn’t let go. This is the kind of historical fantasy I wish there was more of.” – Kate Elliott

I believe ages 15+ for this series! ;^)

Skybowl… The conclusion of the Dragon Star trilogy

SkybowlI always hate conclusions. Always. They are the worst, and yet best, part of a series. I usually grow attached to the characters, if the writer is good.  I’m growing used to them, but its still sucky. And its always hard to say goodbye to your friends… Read more…

The Dragon Token

Author: Dragon Girl  //  Category: Ages 16+, Fantasy, Fiction, Junior, Romance, Science Fiction, Young Adults

The Dragon TokenOkay, I just love a good adventure! And while I live the most unforgettable ones, I always enjoy reading about faraway land and distant rendevzous. Plus, I am a budding author, so I like to read what other, very popular, writers style. I already have my own style, as anyone who knows me can vouch for. I love reading and writing, and apparently I have a talent for it. Of course, writing is only one of the many talented endeavours I have embarked upon… Oh, back to the book! Did I mention its title?! Who its by?! Geeze, I’m becoming a gossip! Now we are talking about The Dragon Token, by Melanie Rawn. Aka, book two in the Dragon Star series. After generations of peace, a seemingly unstoppable invasion is upon them, and now Prince Pol and his most trusted Sergent, Maarken, must rally their troops to make a desperate bid to stop the enemy forces. Sounds pretty cool to me!

Ages 16+ for this bookie!
